A Letter To Gun Haters All

Dear Defenseless and Misguided,
Like it or not, guns are an intricately woven part of the fabric of America and have played an important role in our everyday lives since our nation was founded. Any concerted effort on your part to forcibly disarm this country will most certainly be met with fierce resistance, and could literally rip it apart at its seams. Anyone misguided enough to support the abolishment of the 2nd Amendment, and the confiscation of firearms from the American public, should be considered a serious threat to our Constitutional Republic, and should be dealt with accordingly. An armed American is a citizen, while a disarmed American is merely a subject.
Firearms in the hands of law abiding citizens (including most police officers) are without a doubt, the most effective and convincing method of stopping criminals (and governments) who are intent upon committing a crime. Passing laws that remove guns from the hands of honest citizens only emboldens criminals and encourages more crime. Laws do not stop criminals. Guns, in the hands of law abiding citizens, stop criminals.
Let’s take a look at the “No Gun Zone” laws that have been enacted around schools in many of our communities. These are some of the most ridiculous and toothless laws ever devised. Do you really believe that a hardened criminal, with murder or mayhem on his mind, is going to let a simple no gun restriction keep him from his intended victims? These laws only accomplish one thing. They strip honest people of the ability to protect themselves and ensure that only the criminals will be armed. Guns do not cause crime, people, they help reduce it.
A gun is simply a tool. It is no better and no worse than the person wielding it. In the hands of criminals, guns can be terrifying and deadly. In the hands of honest citizens, guns put meat on the table, provide protection, and save lives. There are numerous instances where the mere presence of a firearm stopped a criminal dead in his tracks. (No pun intended.)
In 2009 there were 270 million guns owned in the US, by approximately 44 million Americans. During that year, there were over 29,500 firearm related deaths. Approximately 11,000 of those deaths were homicides, but the vast majority of them, about 17,500, were suicides. Most avid gun haters would try to use these statistics to support a complete ban of all privately owned firearms. Most avid gun haters would probably say that at least some of the poor souls who took their own lives would never have shot themselves if they hadn’t owned a gun, and I would have to agree with that 100%. They would simply have overdosed on pain killers. Or hung themselves. Or slit their wrists. Or picked one of over 100 other ways to die when a person really has his mind made up to kill himself. Most avid gun haters would blame “The Gun” in these instances, but that is clearly not the answer.
When a person drives a car at a high rate of speed, and swerves into a crowd of people killing and maiming innocent bystanders, do you blame the car? When a woman gets mad at her husband for not voting, and runs him down in the mall parking lot with her SUV, do you blame the SUV? There were roughly 250 million vehicles registered in the US in 2009. There were over 36,000 vehicle related deaths that same year. In other words, there were far more people killed by cars that year, than were murdered by guns. You people should be standing on your soap boxes and SCREAMING for automobiles to be banned! While we’re at it, let’s go ahead and ban those deadly chain saws, baseball bats, knives, machetes, pool cues, all mountain climbing gear, back yard swimming pools, parachutes, and don’t forget those deadly airplanes!
Now, I am not completely without empathy, and I do have a modicum of understanding for the anti-gun establishment’s distrust and loathing of anything firearms related. From what I’ve learned, it simply boils down to this: A lack of education and intellect. History has shown that people of lower intelligence levels have an innate, almost superstitious fear of all things foreign. Since most gun haters are liberals and democrats, this would explain the unnatural fear and panic that engulfs them when one even mentions the word GUN!
Might I suggest that all of you defenseless and misguided gun haters go out and buy yourself a firearm, take a gun safety course, and practice with it, over and over, until you are completely comfortable. Once you realize that it is absolutely safe when used properly, you might want to consider buying some bullets for it!
I will close with two of the most over utilized, but compelling reasons given for one to carry a gun: Because a police officer is too heavy, and when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.
Thank you,
Themerryinfidel
